Liz Dreams: Pooky Cub Bearnapping

Worst COVID dream ever:

Pooky Cub was a bit older and we had this game where she would see me and this run into me. (Only good part of the dream.)

So, she was in day care and day care was at a book store (Barnes N Noble?). And I saw here there, so she runs over and runs into my legs and I pick her up and we visit.

Well for some reason I wanted to take her across the street to a mall?
So, I just put her in the back seat of my car like "sit still child and don't fall over, this'll be fine". And we had fun at the mall.

But then someone was like "what the f^ck, you took a kid out of day care without telling an adult?!?! They'll be calling the parents and the police about now". And I was all "I can't tell Pooky Bear, because I shouldn't have taken her to the mall without a car seat"

So, we drove back over to Barnes N Noble. Again without a car seat. And acted like nothing happened.
Pooky Bear and the police had not been called.

But then when it was time for parent pick up, I was with Pooky Bear (?!?) Pooky Cub and I practiced making sure the staff knew we were leaving.

So, I woke up feeling like a horrible friend and not sure Pooky would ever want her kid to be around me again. I'm sorry for what dream me did!!!

COVID Diaries - I guess I finally got sick of writing every day?

I'll just do a little catch up here. Apparently half my movements are now tracked with my credit card, btw.

Monday: I must not've gone anywhere, because I didn't buy anything other than a lid for a pot on Amazon. Side note here, it's good I looked at my credit card because I thought I'd set up payment for this month's statement and I had not. (I'm still a week or two before due date, so all is well.)

Tuesday: My foot still hurts, but I'm like "I may, at some point, recover from this". Also, snow day?

Wednesday: Foot is slowly improving. I am running so freaking slow. But, I have not given up the streak. So, there's that. Also, more snow?

Thursday: I had to actually leave my house, so I legit made the most of it. I had to go to one of my satellite office locations, which is on a hospital campus (though nowhere near the main building.) The work I needed to do lasted a full two minutes. And then I switched into running gear and ran my mile on campus where the plowing is absolutely legit.

Then, I went to the main attraction of the day, which is the Asian grocery store. (I'm okay calling it that right?) There's also a lot of African imported food and Mexican/south American food, but it's mostly targeted at South East Asian immigrants. I got my passion fruits (always my main motivator). I got a few new kinds of mushrooms to try. (Yum!) I picked out oyster sauce, fish sauce, and what I later learned was not the right kind of soy sauce but not the worst guess in the world either.

Also, you know, I worked all of these days. Even a little bit on Monday.

Friday: I don't know what my issue was.

Let's start with the true COVID dream I had. "Work" was a place I actually went to and our COVID tests in dream Liz world looked suspiciously liked a breathalyzer or something in awake-land. (You blew into it to get a reading.) Somehow I came up positive. But y'all, I didn't leave work. Or I did but I lived upstairs? And then it's like "I'll go to the grocery store". That's not allowed. So I went back downstairs to work. To help with dishes? Or clean my dishes? And one of the supervisors (who is a real life person I know) was like "can we at least keep the COVID+ people out of this one space?" But, yo, I kept forgetting I had COVID. So they tested me the next day and poor Supervisor was like "this is worse than before, go away". And I went back into the room where I wasn't allowed, to help with dishes or whatever, before trying to get groceries again. And I wasn't the only work person that kept trying to come in, and forgetting we were sick. We were all asymptomatic. I told real life supervisor what Dream Liz put Dream Supervisor through and she thought it was hilarious.

I had a Teams training from 8am-10am. And it's actually a training I enjoy and a subject I love. I ended it 20 minutes early. (That part I'm okay with. I will force role plays in person, but I won't over teams.) A colleague was on just watching, and gave great feedback. I told her it felt like I had backup for the training!

Next up I had to work for a while. I was like a freaking zombie. I don't know what my problem was. I liked the training. The work calls I made were positive and I felt relatively helpful.

Around noon I told my colleague I needed to take a break and was that okay with her. Mercifully she was like "I get it. Go." I ran my mile and did some clean up grocery shopping including yeast and bread flour. How did I not know that was a thing?

I came back feeling refreshed and started the weekend on a relatively high note.

Saturday: (That's today y'all.) I woke up for reals a little before 10am. And had junk food. And then napped. Not gonna lie.

Somehow around 2pm, I got off my ass and did all the things. I ran my mile. I took out the garbage. I legit cleaned my kitchen. I rode my exercise bike. I made bread. All the things.

For supper, I had much better luck with a new Naan recipe (and improved ingredients on my end). And I had better mushroom luck than one other night this week that we don't need to talk about.

And now my kitchen is clean again, so, there's that.

COVID Diaries - Liz dreams

Today in Liz Dreams:
Y'all, I had like the "Outlander" dream, but it was my own dream.
I was more like, watching this like a fly on the wall.
The main lady, Claire, was born in modern times, somehow got thrown back into olden times, and then got married, but was able to take her spouse forward into our time.
Dream starts as Claire and Jamie and their kids are like, hanging out in modern times.
Then one of the kids finds like, a portal through the dresser drawer (not even a full wardrobe, just a little drawer). And somehow the whole family finds it and goes back to what we'll call Jamie's time.
Except, y'all, they bring stuff.
In my dream, they brought a lot of plastic/water tight jars.
Dream Liz is surprised they didn't bring duct tape and ibuprofen.
Jamie, Claire, and the kids has this reassuring disregard for warping the timeline. Like "oh, I don't need this plastic container, I'll teach a peasant from the 1600s to screw on a bottle cap and tell them it's magic".
And somehow they could get back to our time through the dresser portal.
Yo, this was a great dream but then my alarm clock went off, so I hope I have "more" of this dream sometime.

COVID Diaries - COVID Dreams

Today in Liz Dreams:
I had this dream that I had a house. And a garage. (Not where I live now.)
For some reason Gov Walz was over at some point, to cheer us all on for wearing masks and such.
And then someone came running in to find me and was all "I've been looking for you, there's a problem in your back yard".
My fence had been totally destroyed.
I'm all "did a black bear seriously just run by me?"
And then I'm all "well, I guess I need a new fence, and hopefully they can do a little work in the garage too" and then I was all "wait, can't I just not have a fence?"
But there was an issue with not having a fence and black bears getting into my trash?
So I was planning how to find a carpenter who could build me a fence before winter, and how to pay for it, etc.
I woke up and am happy to not have black bears, and not need a new fence.

COVID Diaries - COVID Dreams

Liz Dream:
I was hanging out with friends, and as part of that, we needed to walk into downtown so I could mail my absentee ballots.
Somehow on the walk, I got separated from the two of them.
Then there was a fire in the direction they went.
And, the direction I was going, to mail my ballot, a tornado popped up over the building.
So I'm standing outside of downtown with these strangers, watching, horrified as this giant smoke tornado does it's thing.
Then, somehow I get my car, and park it closer and drop off my ballot in the mailbox.
There was an issue of what day I was mailing the ballot, and had I missed the election? And then, no, my ballot was a couple weeks early.
I reconnected with my friend, and things got more confusing from there.
So, after a year of living up this way, I have finally identified the post office closest to me, and I'm going to take care of voting today.

COVID Diaries - COVID Dreams are real

Ok; how's this one for a dream.
Setting: At somehow a combination of the Science Museum (where I worked) and the Playhouse in the Park.
Characters: Bonnie Raitt (who was no taller than me in my dream), ABBA (yes, that ABBA), Mom, Dad, Marge, and literally the cast of this play.
Plot: I was working, or reviewing my work at the Science Museum, watching videos of old projects I'd done with the kids. (This is sweet.) And I'm hearing on the news about Bonnie Raitt being in town for a concert, and unrelated, ABBA was also in town, and they may do a surprise drop in at the play later that night. Lovely.
And soon it's about time for the play. I'm around the bar/snack area when in runs Bonnie Raitt in a speed suit (I kid you not), grabs whatever she needs from the bar, signs an autograph, and then just says hello and start talking to me. I had no pen, nor paper, so she took a picture with me. I tried to tell her that we had an actual album of hers, but the words did not come out.
So, somehow I'm star struck enough that I didn't go in to the start of the play, so I missed Bonnie's surprise number with the cast and I was 100% not disappointed.
They let me in after the first number (this is SOP for plays, there's one late seating). What's not SOP is I couldn't find my seat and it was all "just go anywhere, it's fine"
Also, I had a race medal around my neck that kept making noise (like a buzzer or kids toy) anytime I touched it. And I accumulated other boxes and drawings, etc over the course of the show. But what was most frustrating was everyone just kept moving around. Like "Oh, I'll try this seat now". So, sometimes I'd sit down and my new row mates would be friendly but.. One entitled white dude was like "Go back to your own seat" and I was all "my Dad is sitting in my seat, I can't tell him to move" Between coming in late and moving seats in between skits and songs, I didn't have a program, or a 'bonus program' that turned everyone's hands red?
This play was like, the cast does a skit and then sings a song and then the set goes dark, and then some cast members come in the audience to distract you for a while, and then the next set is up... Apparently this happened in my dream 8 or 9 of the 11 times it was scheduled to before... I don't know. I got fed up. ABBA did join them for one of the songs in the middle. I was one of the only audience members who knew all these extra singers were ABBA at the start of their song.
There was an extra long brake between one of the sets because an actor fell back stage?
Also, at the end, someone from MTV was waiting around in the wings to give an award to Bonnie Raitt but mercifully I woke up before that. It was a really bad play.

COVID Diaries - May 12

I still don't know what day it is. I barely know where I am.

In "Liz dream" land: I dreamed I was trying to use clippers to even out my hair, and wound up shaving a big patch bald, and then was all "in for a penny, right?" and shaved my hold head bald. I loved it but was nervous for everyone's reactions. It was actually a good dream. My head was super fuzzy and all "good touch" like.

In the morning, I worked. And searched for coffee. There was a high need for coffee today. After lunch, I continued to work but was significantly more coherent.
After work, I did all of the exercising. I am thrilled to report I continue to feel great, which has been an excellent surprise for me. I got to visit an egret and a blue heron on my run. They were happy as clams fishing in the pond. (I still think of it as a marsh, because these birds can walk from one side of the water to the other.)
And then I cut my hair more. It's super short but I am owning it and loving it for now. Olive was super supportive, and Captain Smiley has been as well. No one one at work has seen it, so I just need to act like "of course you'll be as supportive as Olive and Captain Smiley" when I video in to show them.

COVID Diaries - Another screwed up dream

So, quarantine dreams are a real thing.

I dreamed I went to see a client (this would've been in the context of my last job, more than my current job). It gets a bit hazy but the humans beside myself are the client who's a dude, client's wife/girlfriend/whatever who is female, and possibly a baby. I don't know about the baby, I lost track of it. Which appears to be a recurring theme in my dreams?

So, for some reason, I wound up falling asleep at these people's house in like a spare room. Like, at night. Why was I there at night? I have no idea. So, around 2am I wake up and I was all "I feel better now, I'mma drive home". And I went to their garage (why was my car in their garage?) except my car was gone. Also, I kept always going the wrong way to get to their garage, like the wrong hallway, and retracing my steps.

Now I'm like, WTF, they took my keys and moved my car. This is not funny. And this is where the dream, like, happened twice in two different directions.

Branch 1 is that I found the drunk neighborhood guy, who's name I somehow knew, and I was like "George. Do you know anything about this? What happened?" And he confesses to moving my car, parking it somewhere on count road 1. And I was like "you're going to take me there. Now" So we walked and found my car and it had some damage and I was crushed. I was thinking "If I get the cops involved, then I have to disclose the professional relationship and that'll really screw up my license"

Branch 2 involves me hearing the story of dude driving away in my car (not George) and getting pulled over and then arrested for auto theft at gun point. So now, the police are involved and for sure my professional license is going to get screwed up.

And then I dream woke up and was like "did that happen? Is that real or can I keep my job"
I was super happy to wake up for real.

COVID Diaries - May 7

I swear to you, I have no idea what day it is. It's a week day? I think.

I had this crazy dream last night. I was with all these women. The women my age and younger all had babies. We all had newborns except My Pooky Bear who had a newborn and a 1 year old. And then there were like "the grandmas". You know, the women who'd raised their kids already but you could hand them any baby in any condition and they could comfort and care for said child. So, like, I was holding my baby and walking around and it was lovely. And then, someone else wanted to hold my baby, and I held my Pooky Bear's 1 year old (who was a boy in this dream, so not quite like real life), and then it was like "who's got my kid?" and I couldn't remember who had my kid. Or what my kid looked like. I mean, I knew she was okay, but I couldn't find her and I'm like, what a dream-mom-failure am I? I was glad I woke up from that one.

I had a surprisingly active day. Also, I did not take a nap.

Exercise 1: Leg exercises and a 3.5 mile "run". I've been having, um, fitness issues, for a while. So I'm back to the low heart rate "I hate MAF" time. I'm trying to remember there will be a big pay off for this eventually.

Then I worked hard most of the day. I had a lot of patient contacts, and doing some research on a couple things as well.

Towards the end of the day, I took a short walk. I took pictures of nature. It was lovely.

After supper, I had a bonus Zumba class since we got zoom bombed yesterday. (Like, WTF, who has time for that?)

30.8.19

Liz Dream: just (sort of) like real life

Liz Dream:
I was going to see this patient. But in the dream and in real life, the ‘patient' is also the author of a blog I read. So I had to act like not a total creeper while talking to Blog Author about his health care directive wishes. And the children of Blog Author kept coming in and just being little kids and Blog Author kept having to wait for spouse to come shooo the kids away so we could continue talking about “what if you need CPR or a feeding tube”.

I was late leaving that house because of all the interruptions with the kids, and because health care directives take for ever. Even in dreams I can't make this shorter. So obviously I didn’t get to eat lunch. So much of this dream is like real life.

I think I may have wound up raiding Blog Author’s pantry (it could’ve been my own food, that part of the dream is hazy) and wound up with pretzels and crackers and instant mac n cheese and similar high carb comfort foods. (Mmmmm. That part of the dream is probably based on my current W30 status)

Excellent. High car comfort foods! Because: my next patient was feeling nauseous and needed help picking different foods that he could eat. So dream social work Liz is all “I’ll just bring this guy some food and we can try it together. I’ll get lunch and he can sample.”

Y’all, my next dream patient was Dwayne the Rock Johnson. Dream social work Liz brought kraft mac n cheese to the Rock and he straight up loved it.

13.4.19

Liz dream: Where are the walls?

Dream Liz is home shopping for the town house next to Captain Smiley. (Dream Liz and Dream Captain Smiley would share a wall.)

So, Dream Liz shops, and looks around, and is all "of course I'm going to buy this".

And then Dream Liz goes downstairs into the living area of the home. Except there's no wall between this unit and the next unit (not Captain Smiley, on the other side). There's just a division in the living room of furniture. Like a line of couches and chairs down the middle.

Dream Liz looks at the other owner and is like "how does this work?" and "what if you're watching TV and I want quiet?" and the other owner is all ::shrug:: "I don't know, it's just always worked". And for some reason, Dream Liz is still all "of course I'm going to buy this".

And then Dream Liz goes up somehow to the 3rd floor, and this time walks the other way, and just is like, inside Captain Smiley's unit. So I guess that wall we share doesn't go all the way up.

It's at this point that Dream Liz realizes that all four units in the building are sort of connected with hallways, no walls or doors, and so all the units can just roam freely in each other's spaces. And still, Dream Liz is all "of course I'm going to buy this".

It was about then that I woke up at 3am and didn't get back to sleep until 6:30am, shortly before my alarm woke me up for reals.

11.12.18

Monday: Hill Repeats

Plan: 2-ish miles warm up, 8x1:00 up will with downhill recoveries, 1-2 miles 'cool down'
Actual Mileage: 5.31 miles total.

Route: This is one of my downtown routes. The 'hill' is a path from the Cedar Lake Trail up to Kenwood Parkway and the pedestrian bridge along 394. It is 'up' but I didn't hate my life.
Weather: 25*. Brief moments of sunshine. Some wind.

Wardrobe: wool socks; lined tights; long sleeve shirt; sweat shirt; hat; gloves; Altra trail shoes. While the trails are mostly clear, there are still some issues.
Execution: Warm up, run along Cedar Lake trail until I'm under 394, then start the 8 repeats. I had a little trouble gauging my effort. I kept finding myself 'racing myself' up the hill if you will, trying to get farther than I had been on the last rep.
From today, I learned: Swing my arms. Swing, swing, swing. It was like literally pulling myself up the hill. Also, focus on effort over speed.

Bonus: I had a dream last night. I made the workout program and synced my watch (happened in real life too). Then I started the workout. I only ran up the hill once, and then forgot to do the rest of the repeats and didn't remember until after the cool down. What is wrong with me?!?

22.11.15

Operation Mickey

As I mentioned yesterday, at least one mouse was visiting my home. Being not at all cool with those arrangements, I'd set a bunch of traps to remove said visitors. Late last night as I was falling asleep I heard one of the traps fire. That didn't take long. But no way was I going to go deal with the situation at that exact moment. I'll just dream about it instead.

So I had this dream...
I woke up to a big black rat in the trap. The mouse trap wasn't quite strong enough to kill the rat, but the rap was quite trapped. So when I came into the living room to turn on the television the rat made eye contact with me and rolled it's eyes as if to say "this is ridiculous, can I go now?" Because I had no desire to address a live trapped rat I just left it there. In walks a live possum. That thing looked at me too, before it sat on top of the rat in an attempt to keep it warm and comforted. I got an eye roll from the possum too. And I'm all "how did a possum get in here?!?" and "what is going on?!?"
So I start chasing the possum. It's not in a trap, it can run. And it runs into some door that I didn't know existed that leads to the stairs and the people who live upstairs, but also to a window in the stair well. The window is notable because everything else in the house is nice, but this window is in disrepair. It's opened and the screen is straight up torn out. Which leads to a discussion with my roommates about getting the house fixed.
To recap - I had a dream where I made it someone else job to fix the house but never delegated emptying the rat from the trap. Priorities?

Back in real life, this dream kind of woke me up. Shortly after I woke up, I decided to go face Mickey. I reasoned it was early enough, my brain was probably still too tired to figure out what was going on so that would make it less awful. Why? I think the big black rat comes from the imagery in this video which I watched yesterday to figure out how to load the traps. It's one degree less obvious than you'd think. For reference, the rat in my dream was slightly larger and less plastic than "Mister Mouse" but roughly the same in all other aspects.

The internet also tells me that rats are about evaluating the clutter around you, relevant because I spent so much time last night cleaning. Possums are about taking a passive stance in things that are happening around me. I love the imagery of my dream of the Possum coming in and laying on top of the rat. Trumped.

27.6.12

It will be good for me to be bad at something for a while

Item 1 - life is rough. I'm at that stage where I could best be described as a sleeping monster. Seriously. I am like a bear. I only want to sleep. Which culminated in a dream this morning about me kicking out a chipmunk from a double paned window (it was time for it to go) and then discovering I'd also upset an animal that can best be described as part baby tiger and part hamster. The little animal was panicking and crying and then I started crying when I realized it didn't have any teeth and no mom to give it milk. I was planning on how to give it milk through an eye dropper when I woke up. Thank goodness too. That wasn't a good dream.

Item 2 - don't poop your pants is a phrase most runners know. I entertained the Bolder Options training group last night with my use of that information.

Item 3 - It's hot. It's 9pm and still 90*. I was thinking about a run tomorrow morning but may decide against it.

Item 4 - it will be good to be bad at something for a while. I just started to share my time between my current job and another department at work. In the new department I am brand new and in that stage where you have to completely learn everything again. It's hard right now and perhaps contributing to the sleepiness. Ultimately it will be good for me.

Item 5 - I'm dating a new bike.

I asked the Bolder crew if they knew anyone with an extra road bike. While a mountain bike is better than nothing, it can be pretty rough slow. My mountain bike is slow. I took the new bike out on a long first date around the lakes (way too crowded) and headed home on the Greenway and Bikeways.

How fast was I going? A billion times faster than on my mountain bike. For reference, see how slow I was here
Things I liked about this bike:
 • The gear shifting situation is much better than my bike.
 • It's faster than my bike.
 • It weighs less than my bike.
 • It's meant to be on the road but not freaked out by the total crap pavement situation we have going on in some places up here. 40th street between Lyndale and 35W, I'm looking at you.

Things I didn't like about this bike:
 • Clips on the pedals. Is this sacrilege or something? I'm not a fan of the clips. When I'm in them they make my toes numb and I'm worried I won't be able to get my foot out of them. When I'm not in them, they hit the ground when I'm turning.
 • Honestly not sure if the frame is the right size. My back and shoulders were killing me on the ride. It could just be that I'm out of practice.
 • Also in the minus column is the speed because now I have to work harder to stop. So afraid of flying over the handlebars...

I'm going to date this bike for as long as I'm allowed. It is fun to have a bike I feel good about and will look forward to riding.

How's Life Been - stomach; training and freaky dreams

How's life been? I keep having weird dreams and my stomach hates me.

The dreams: I keep having dreams where I'm chasing down wolf spiders and killing them (sorry Chris, you're welcome Dani) or accidentally stepping on snails and salamanders. If you have some free time look up the symbolism of these animals. It can't be good that I'm trying to kill them. I also had a dream where Chris went nuts in a Claire's type store and started taunting the staff and playing with a foursquare ball (serious) with his friends. Somehow my old school was connected to the mall. He got in there to hide but I got him out eventually. (If you know Chris, being a jerk is pretty much the last thing he'd ever do so it was really odd. Maybe he has an evil twin.)

My stomach: It does this every once n a while. Tummy and I have entered into negotiations and it seems to be taking food normally at this point. Yesterday I was on clear liquids.

Training: This half-marathon is going to be something else. (It's only a half!?! Why do runners say that to each other?) After I ran on Sunday my stomach was mad. It made me take Monday off. I took this morning off too after Beth *ahem* couldn't get to her shoes because her floors were being redone (yeah, sure) and Robin excused me from getting out of bed that early.
Tonight I ran with Team:Work. We're coming up with some good team uniform ideas. I'd tell you what they are but I want them to stay private until the big day. Team did good tonight, their first time running eight minutes without stopping. Congratulations! After that I went to the gym and made up the four miles I didn't run this morning.

In a sick way, I'm looking forward to Thursday's hill run. I have a couple different courses in mind. I think I need to stop hill running because the Pikes Peak Marathon is starting to look interesting. Seriously. Stop now.

4.4.10

Had a bad bad half-marathon dream

In my dreams...

I was running a half-marathon with Bonnie, not Deb, my actual Flying Pig partner. And the race started inside, in like a gym/sports complex. (Dreams where I'm running indoors never turn out well anyways.)

Bonnie and I went like, a tenth of a mile, and she had to stop and pee. (Wtf?) So I waited for her. Mind you, we were at the back of the racing pack anyways so I wanted to GO.

And here she comes, walking back in her street clothes, "oh, you go on, I decided not to do the race". And I said, "are you kidding, I paid all this money and drove down to Cincinnati to see you, you can't just change your mind like that". And she just sent me on my way.

I was far enough back from the pack that I lost my way and had to run inside a different building. There were all these guys walking around on horses as I'm looking for which path (skyway type deal) to take. And I got stopped when a man on a camel (not a horse, a camel)crossed my path.

Mercifully then I woke up.

I hate dreams where I'm running and can't get anywhere, or where I'm running and can't find the race course. Also, what do horses and camels represent?

5.2.10

So I had this dream and now I'm registered for the marathon...

I realized last night as I was falling asleep that registration is now open for the Twin Cities Marathon. Apparently that thought influenced me because I had this dream... Someone I knew took me to the starting line of the marathon (in my dream it was the Twin Cities Marathon, but the course totally wasn't our marathon) and cheered for me. The course took us through this castle/labyrinth/something and I kept going through it the wrong way and getting bounced back to the beginning. Understand now that I'm running through the halls trying to keep up with the marathoners. And every time I got bounced back I had to wear some different costume, all of which were hot and involved a lot of fur. It was like ground hog day on an acid trip. And I was getting further and further behind everyone else. I also remember one other part of the course that looked kind of like Cathedral Hill and my friend was there too. I don't remember actually finishin the marathon in my dream but I'm sure I did or I woke up from thinking about running in all those costumes.

Today, after all that, I decided to actually register for the marathon. (Hey, now I'm economically invested.) I also registered for the Flying Pig Half Marathon, known by some as Hill Training. I was thinking about running the Minneapolis Half Marathon like last year but I think I've spent enough on race entries for one day. (Though, seriously, to all of you from Minnesota the Minneapolis Half or full Marathon is a great race and a great course.)

This has been a rough week for running and working out in general. Between the snow and my attitude about the gym in the winter, not much is getting done. I might try just going for a walk this weekend. Walking in the snow is fun right? It's not supposed to be that cold.
