COVID Diaries - A note to my future self

Dear future self: anyone who says "it used to be like this when I was a kid" is full of shit. This is the most snow recorded this early in the season. This is the second highest snow fall in October, ever.  Bested only by the Halloween Blizzard or legend.

We had 7-8" of the white stuff today.  On October 20. What the....

I woke up early and got my run in before the snow.  I had to run a work related errand, and because I'm a bone head I had to run a second work related errand as well. (Could've been more efficient there.  Sigh.)  It was trying to snow when I was running.

When I got home, I just sat down, worked, and watched the stuff pile up.  This needs photos, not a hand written diary entry.  Photos are in time stamp order here.  For these, the best indicator is the snow accumulating on the orange bucket.

Running Conditions in April

Warmest Run: The day I ran on the Greenway and the hot sun made it feel like my black shorts were on fire.
Coldest Run: Those two snow days in the middle of the month.
Favorite Run: 20 miler for marathon training.  Because Olive met me at the end with a fizzy water and we had burgers.
Worst conditions outside: April snow storms are real people!
Other: I seriously had to go on Garmin and look to for runs on April 2 and 17, because I didn't remember going to the gym on at least one of those days. April 2 was so long ago.

Before and After: Spring Snow

This is one of my favorites for April.  This is from April 9 and April 10.  Spring snow storms are real people.

Marshmallow Training - 4 Weeks To Go

Sunday Planned: Run 1 mile
Sunday actual: 1.2 miles, bonus abs
From today, I learned: Testing out the Brooks Launch shoes.

Monday Planned: Tempo run, Monday Weights, Monday Abs
Monday actual: Tempo run completed; Monday Abs done; weights not done because I'm working today
From today, I learned: Tempo runs are starting to feel easier.  Not sure if easier in my mind or my body or both.

Tuesday Planned: Run 1 miles, or maybe do Wednesday workout?
Tuesday actual: Wednesday run is done today, with bonus abs.  Leaving the weights for tomorrow
From today, I learned: Glad I looked at the weather.  It was a nice day today, if a bit windy.

Wednesday Planned: Run 8 miles, Wednesday weights
Wednesday actual: 1 miles outside in the snow.  No weights
From today, I learned: The 'rain' we were supposed to get today came as snow, so I went straight home instead of stopping at the gym.  Glad I listened to my instincts.

Thursday Planned: Run 1 miles
Thursday actual: 1 miles outside in the wind.
From today, I learned: The wind was worse sitting on my couch hearing it than it was running in it.

Friday Planned: Run 7 miles and Friday weights, or Run 1 miles and Friday weights
Friday actual: Run 1 miles in the snow
From today, I learned: I had a big disappointment today (I'm fine, just hoped for something that turned out not to happen), so I spent my run thinking of all the things and people I have in my life that make me grateful, and also telling God that I trust that something wonderful will happen, and it will be perfect, and it's also perfect that it hasn't happened yet (even though I was bummed).

Saturday Planned: Run 7 miles or Run 20 miles Depending on what happened Friday
Saturday actual: Run 4.15 miles in the morning.
From today, I learned: I'd been kind of destroyed between the snow and the emotional roller coaster of the week, so I didn't have the energy for 7.  I ran into a friend just before the end of the run so it was nice to catch up with her.

Marshmallow Training - 10 Weeks To Go

Sunday Planned: long run Run 1 miles
Sunday actual: Run 1 mile in the snow.  The was super slow going.
From today, I learned: I pulled out the face mask again for this run.  We're having a blizzard.   Also, this is the current weather situation in Minnesota.  We've had super impressive amounts of snow, with more on the way next weekend, and the roads in southern Minnesota are currently closed (literally).  I finally talked to Mom about my weather anxiety and that helped a bit.

Monday Planned: Quality workout: 5 sets of 5:00 tempo with 2:00 rest.  Monday abs.  Monday weights.
Monday actual: Quality workout completed.  Instead of Monday abs/weights, I did Friday weights.  It just seemed like the thing.  I had the weight room to myself.
From today, I learned: Tempo work was fun.  It felt good to sweat!

Tuesday Planned: Run 1 miles
Tuesday actual: 1.15 miles in the snow.
From today, I learned: There have been a significant number of Yak Trax runs this month.  This run was much better than Sunday because it was post plowing.  Footing wasn't perfect but it was pretty good.  Also, the plow ridges are impressive.  PS - We got more snow tonight!

Wednesday Planned: Run 6 miles.  Wednesday weights.
Wednesday actual: 6 miles on the track, nice and easy heart rate.
Wednesday weights also accomplished.
From today, I learned: I felt much better after working out than I did before I started working out.

Thursday Planned: Run 1 miles
Thursday actual: Run 6 miles at Rush Creek trail because of good weather today and lousy weather ahead.  Finisher.
From today, I learned: I started off feeling lousy (and also forgot my sports bra, had to use my emergency back up), but I'm glad I stuck with it because I felt better by the end of the run.

Friday Planned: Run 1 miles; weights
Friday actual: Run 1 mile; Monday weights; Monday Abs, so that's all done
From today, I learned:

Saturday Planned: Run 6 miles
Saturday actual: Run 1 miles, traded with Thursday
From today, I learned: So, I'd originally planned to do my long run today, but I just never felt up to it.  So, not only did I not feel up to going for a run, but now I have that guilt.  Also, since I'm doing it tomorrow, it's going to happen inside, so there's that.

28.2.19

Running Conditions: February

Warmest Run: A couple of my long runs were pretty warm. One was also significantly snowy.
Coldest Run: Probably the ice run on Feb 5, with the snow run on Feb 24 as a runner up.  Air temps were warmer on the 24 but the wind was fierce.
Favorite Run: Probably most proud of myself for this dumb ass snow run.  I loved this run for the Audiobook I started to read and this run for the weather and Rush Creek Trail.
Worst conditions outside: I mean, every freaking day?!? No, seriously, some of the runs with Yak Trax after the snow were pretty brutal footing, especially the 24th, and let's not forget the ice cleat run of Feb 5.
Other: After last  year's record setting April snow, I'd really hoped for a more chill winter this year, but no.  This one is going even bigger gangbusters than last year.
2/27/19 Update: 38.9"; 4th snowiest month of all time.  Also we're going into March with another snow storm followed by near record cold.  I'm so over this.
