Well, I had some crazy dreams last night. One involved being back on Semester at Sea in some capacity that I don't really remember. A lot of my dreams have also involved adventure stories, like long drawn out... so many layers.
I woke up around 9am and had first breakfast. First breakfast obviously did not involve coffee because some time later I feel back asleep 'till 1pm.
I spent a significant portion of the afternoon awake. Surprise right? Eventually I decided the rain would never stop and prepared to get while and wind blown while running. I did a 30 mins resistance band workout and then ran my mile, which turned out to be almost 2 miles, so all is well.
At this point, I hit my productivity stride. I washed/dried my sheets, washed/hung up my running clothes, and tidied up the guest bedroom. The guest bedroom had been calling out for assistance for a while now.
Next up, I reheated (pan-fried) the flank steak Captain Smiley grilled for me last Friday. I had supper while talking to Mom and Dad who were also having their supper. I love flank steak. Is it weird that's my favorite cut of steak? I mean, if someone wants to make me a filet Mignon correctly, or grill a rib eye to perfection, I'm down. But in generally, I'll stick with the flank steak.
I got wise today and put my "work cell" (it's really a google voice number) on Do Not Disturb for tomorrow. Because people always wake me up at 8am on Monday with phone calls. On my day off. So, personal responsibility, because it's not their day off right? I'll let you know if I remember to take DND off for Tuesday.

6 miles in the "it won't rain"
Plan: 6 miles easy
Actual Mileage: 6.7 miles
Route: Over the tracks, along Victory Memorial Parkway and around Crystal Lake
Weather: Weather channel said it wouldn't rain. That was a lie, but it didn't rain a lot.
High Points of the workout: I started going harder and harder at the end. Just to let myself get used to the feeling of going hard and not panicking.
Struggles of the workout: I was really stiff when I started out. Super stiff.
From the high points, I learned: Go hard. It can be fun.
From the struggles, I learned: Perhaps I should, like, do a warm up? I mean, really, this is one of the things I improved a lot for weight lifting. I do a much longer warm up now. Maybe I should think about doing one for running.
Next steps: I'm sure I'll be on YouTube all day thinking about running warm ups.
Bonus: I learned how to use 311 to complain about a train blocking an intersection for too long.

TC 10K - 10 Weeks To Go
Sunday planned: Run 1 miles
Sunday actual: 1.19 miles.
From today, I learned: This was a "weather channel says it won't rain" kind of day.
Monday planned: Tempo Run
Monday actual: Tempo run completed. Not at the exact pace my coach wanted, but, you know, done.
From today, I learned: To ask my coach why I can't pace myself properly outside.
Update: I wrote a separate post about this run called "I can't pace myself" and I'm already like "no, this is just a good opportunity to see what all these different paces feel like". So, I guess I'm already making lemonade over here.
Tuesday planned: Run 1 miles, Tuesday Weights
Tuesday actual: 1.23 miles in the morning. Tuesday weights and Tuesday abs in the afternoon
From today, I learned: I was actually bummed I didn't get to run longer because it is GLORIOUS out.
Bonus for today: This is why runners fear bears!.
Wednesday planned: 4 miles easy
Wednesday actual: 4.96 miles plus bonus leg exercises in the morning
From today, I learned: This run was glorious. The weather was perfect. I felt good. It was great!
Thursday planned: Run 1 miles, Thursday weights
Thursday actual: 1.25 miles on the treadmill. Thursday weights done. Bonus walk with Dungeon Master.
From today, I learned: Sometimes a run on the treadmill feels great.
Friday planned: 4 miles easy
Friday actual: 4.5 miles in hilly Buffalo MN, in the afternoon heat.
From today, I learned: I told my coach I felt like I didn't have enough power on hills, so she told me to run more hills. Here I am. It was hot.
Saturday planned: 7 miles long run
Saturday actual: 7 miles inside on the track listening to a book.
From today, I learned: This was a lesson in negative and positive emotions. I felt lousy in the beginning but I was able to get all the laps in I wanted, and keep going. It actually reminded me of the very very bad place I found early in the Flying Pig marathon. So, good note to me that the beginning of the race may be the hardest.

Sunday Long Run: Snow Day
Plan: Go 12 miles. It can be any combination of inside and outside running that is safe and makes sense. At least the end of the run will be inside because 'cool down' will turn into 'freeze my butt off' too quickly otherwise.
Actual Mileage: 10.33 miles outside, 2 miles inside for a total of 12.33 miles.
Route:
Outside: Out and back on the Greenway, basically all the way to St Louis Park and back. My fear is that if I cross the rail road tracks, a train will come and I'll literally be caught 'on the wrong side of the tracks' so I always stop there.
Inside: 2 miles on the track, after the outside bit. 1 mile running and 1 mile cooling down.
Weather: Let's call it a "don't worry, weather channel says it won't rain" kind of day.
Weather Channel said there'd be flurries tapering off shortly after I started, and then the real snow wouldn't start 'till after 10am. Actually, the flurries never stopped, and turned into real snow around mile 7 of this run. At least it was warmer than yesterday. It was 10* when I started and a bit warmer for the finish.
Wardrobe:
Pants: Running tights; Nike winter running pants
Top: Wool base layer, Running Sweat Shirt, Blue Jacket
Feet: Wool compression socks; silver socks, Altra shoes
Other: Hat and gloves were on the whole time, buff went on around mile 7, Running vest
Execution:
Outside run:
Warm up: I totally bit it on a patch of ice before I'd even started to run. Internally I decided if there were any more issues, I had to go back inside immediately no matter where I was.
Run: I did't look at my watch because it was buried under 85 layers of clothes. I started going pretty hard by the end because I really wanted to be done. The footing started out not so great, the snow made it better, then by the last mile the snow was a little too much.
This run ended with me grabbing my gear and heading in doors.
Inside run:
Run: I ran about a mile on the indoor track
Cool down: I did a run/walk of 0.5 miles and then a walk of 0.5 miles to 'cool down'
There was an indoor triathlon happening on the 'downstairs track' so that was entertaining to watch.
Nutrition: I had pumpkin seeds before I left. Turns out this run was fasted because my water bottle froze quite quickly and the Larabar followed suit not long after.
From today, I learned: If you'd described the conditions of this run to me before hand, I would've been up all night worrying about it. But while it was happening it really wasn't so bad, much like this very rainy run.
Bonus: I am going to enter a contest for the best ice eyebrows, mustache, and hair. Do you think I have a chance?

Quality Miles Monday - Hill Repeats
Plan: Hill Repeats workout is
2 miles (-ish) - warm up
8x 1:00 Up the hill at a hard pace, recover down the hill
2 miles (-ish) cool down
Actual Mileage: 5.17 Miles
Route: From my downtown gym, same route as here. The 'hill' is a climb from one path to the pedestrian footbridge next to 394, though I never get up onto 394 itself from where I start.
Weather: Don't worry, Weather Channel says it won't rain. Today was less rain and more "am I wet?" It was like a fine mist, or just 100% humidity in the air made me wet moving through it? 30* or so, winds out of the west, but not too strong.
Wardrobe:
Shoes: NB Minimus with these super warm 'silver' socks I paid $9 for at Bed Bath and Beyond. Sorry. Pants: Brooks Running Pants. Top: Running shirt and a sweat shirt over top. It was the sweatshirt I wanted on this run. Buff on my head.
Execution: Strava says I was slower on this route than the last time I ran it. Sigh. Maybe that just means I'm better at recovery now? I felt fine really. I felt like I had a good effort but not batshit crazy on the up hills, and a good recovery at other times. Leaving something in the tank for the weights.
Nutrition: Well, no. Just. No. I woke up around 10am, finally got to the gym sometime after 11am, and did this whole workout fasted.
From today, I learned: Workout fasted. And swing my arms up the hill.
Bonus:
Monday abs: Used as my warm up to the running workout.
Monday weights: Done after the workout.
All fasted.
And then I didn't have my Larabar because I'm saving carbs for supper tonight.

We Walk - 16 Weeks To Go
Plan: Walk for 2:30
Route: Lake of the Isles today. We did 75 minutes counter clockwise, and then finished up going clockwise.
Weather: The clockwise lap was a bit faster becuase it was raining out. Don't worry. Weather channel said it was supposed to just be cloudy today.
Wardrobe: I think my Pro Compression socks are the reason I have a blister/hot spot on the balls of my feet at the end of these walks. It hurts me to say this because those socks are responsible for some very good feelings in my legs as well. I'll have to try something else next week and see.
Execution: Dungeon Master says we were slower than last week. She might be right. We covered about the same amount of ground in 5 minutes longer.
Nutrition: Let's talk about all the food I ate. I actually did my run on an empty stomach. When I got back to my car I had half an avocado and two hard boiled eggs. Dungeon Master arrived as I was getting all that down. During the walk I had an Rx Bar. Post walk I had two more hard boiled eggs.
Bonus: Now I'm sitting on my couch drinking coffee and listening to the rain that wasn't supposed to exist today.
