THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:
Name seven television shows you’re ready to see new episodes of.
We'll ignore the Cincinnati grammar of the question for now...
1. Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip - even though there's only two episodes left.
2. Brothers and Sisters, my new favorite show which will have to carry the torch once Studio 60 ends its run.
3. Hmmm....
4. Maybe this is why I should get cable again.
5. Does the Harry Potter book count?
6. What about the Harry Potter movie?
7. No? That's all I got...

10 Television Shows I'd Like to Have (Or Already Have) on DVD
1. Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip. I think I've made my feelings about this show clear. Review my previous thoughts here. It's really too many posts to link to individually.
2. Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman. I am not ashamed.
3. The West Wing. I know, you're all shocked. I love that show. There's so many good episodes but really the dialog throughout the whole show was fantastic.
4. Sports Night, another short-lived Aaron Sorkin creation. It was really the forerunner to both West Wing and Studio 60. It was also the show that Felicity Huffman starred on before Desperate Housewives. She's great too.
5. ER but only if I didn't have to get all of the seasons. In particular I would avoid any seasons where helicopters fall from rooftops. That's just silly.
6. Friends. Especially the ones with Tom Selleck as Richard. Yum. You can find out which "Friend" you are by taking this relatively long test or this much shorter one. One quiz said I'm Phoebe. Another one said I'm part Phoebe and part Monica. I feel more Phoebe than Monica. I've always liked her better.
7. The Smurfs. You were thinking the exact same thing. Admit it.
8. Gummi Bears TV Show. Remember that one?
9. What about Fraggle Rock.
10. Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. I refer you to my comment in number two for further information.

How much can I write before Studio 60 is on?
We'll see how much of this I can get down before I need to go watch Studio 60.
1. Central High School Among US 50 Healthiest Schools. I know kids who go there.
2. News about IBM and Drupal. We use Drupal at one of my jobs and I'm not wild about it. Our blog/page has a very clunky design.
3. 50 Blogging Resources.
4. 10 reasons you should never get a job. I'll make sure my kids see this.
5. 10 Things I Wish I Never Believed. An even better list.
Phew. Plenty of time.

I was going to go to the Y
I was going to go to the Y, but it's ridiculously cold outside and I was tired... These both looked fun instead.
First, from Monday's a B!tch:
1. What's the temperature like outside right now?
Ugh, it's uber cold. Oh my gosh. It's so cold Kare11's site says "NA* F". It's too cold to be measured in numbers.
2. What's your ideal kind of weather?
I like in the 50's or 60's and sunny. So I can wear pants and long sleeve shirt and not break a sweat but not be cold either.
3. Do you prefer living in a climate with lots of seasonal change, or do you prefer it to stay close to the same every day?
I like some change. Really even in places where the temps don't change, seasons do.
4. How hard does it have to be raining for you to pull out an umbrella?
Fairly hard, depending on what I'm doing, what I'm wearing and what shoes I have.
5. What's the worst storm you've ever experienced? Is the weather where you live ever potentially dangerous?
The worst one in my mind was the time I was driving on the Pennsylvania turnpike (don't recommend it, by the way) and it dropped a foot of rain in an hour. There is potentially dangerous cold in the winter and potentially dangerous tornadoes at other times here.
From The Sunday 7:
Name your top seven favorite individual episodes of any single television series. If you feel especially enterprising, give a few lines explaining why you think makes your chosen episodes so good.
From Sports Night, "The Cut Man Cometh" a hilarious look at what a sports show does when "the big fight" lasts 3 seconds and they need to fill 2 hours.
From The West Wing: "In Exelcis Deo", the Christmas episode from the first season which is touching. "Shibboleth" a Thanksgiving episode with a great message about how we treat people and a hysterical anecdote about the pardoning of a turkey.
From NYPD Blue: "Honeymoon at Viagra Falls" which has many happy endings in it.
From Friends: "The One Where Ross and Rachel... You Know" is classic, partly because it's Ross and Rachel and partly because Tom Selleck's character is introduced in that episode and I loved the whole "Monica and Richard" thing too, although I'm happy she wound up with Chandler.
From Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip: I have a 3-way tie between "The Christmas Episode" with the best line ever, "I understand if you want to run, but you better get a good head start because I'm coming for you" and Corinne Bailey Rae, and "The Long Lead Story" with a fantastic performance from Sting, and "The Pilot" because Aaron Sorkin does some of his best writing for pilot episodes. (I hold up The West Wing and Sports Night as examples.)
This was a fun one.

I'm ignoring everyone in the room right now
and instead, I'm writing a blog post for you.
From 3X Thursday:
1. How do you get your news? Internet? TV? Newspaper? Which is your favorite source? Why?
Internet. I love RSS feeds. I think we've talked about this before. I get feeds from the news stations in town, and Time Magazine (which are usually pretty boring), also from a bunch of blogs and Digg, BoingBoing Slashdot and Del.icio.us. One of my new favorites is the Ririan Project.
2. Do you watch TV news at all? Do you find it informational? Why/why not?
I watch TV, I love Studio 60, and tonight I'll try and Watch Men in Trees. I try not to watch the news on TV. They have the news on in the morning at the gym with closed caption. I'm alarmed at all the people who didn't know Anna Nicole Smith talking about her. It's gossip not news. I also try to look away when they have pictures of bombs blowing up in other parts of the world.
3. What do you think of Google and all of it's many applications? Is it 'teh awsome', or do you prefer something else?
I use google for the searches. I got started on Yahoo long long ago. For one thing you can just click on "sign up" with Yahoo instead of having to know someone to invite you into Gmail. That's just rude. I use Yahoo for mail, news, tv listings, and sometimes for the games, although not the games since I started grad school. Every once in a while I try google news, but I think yahoo is still a fuller application. It has better categories like "most popular" and more smaller categories inside broad categories like "fossils" and "space" as part of the Science section. Obviously I have a google account because I'm on blogger.

Sunday Long Run - Running in the snow edition
As with last weekend, I totally meant to work out yesterday and slept all day instead. Although yesterday there was a sinus headache that wanted to be a migraine so sleep was the only option.
Today I woke up feeling much better. So great that I had pasta for breakfast! (The thing about living alone is I can do stuff like that.) I kept checking the weather and ultimately decided to man up for an outside run. (I just am not emotionally prepared for the gym right now.)
Around 1pm I headed out for a 'long run' which was more like an 'equipment test run' which had some WINS and FAILS. I did a little out and back with my iPod on the interval timer program and took the Camelbak along for the first time. Here's the route:
FAILS:
WINS:
MUSIC from the run - some of my favorites from today's playlist include:

Around 1pm I headed out for a 'long run' which was more like an 'equipment test run' which had some WINS and FAILS. I did a little out and back with my iPod on the interval timer program and took the Camelbak along for the first time. Here's the route:
FAILS:
- It's hard to take pictures with the iPod while it's all hooked up to my ear buds. Judge for yourself below.
- Nutrition strategy: waiting until I feel so tired and hopeless I want to cry before taking nutrition is too long. Perhaps I could time my eating better to avoid the pit of despair feeling altogether.
- Clothing: I need to wear my neck gator I think. The wind sucked. I also wish I had the gloves that I can keep on and still operate touchscreen devices. Otherwise I was fine.
- Nutrition strategy part 2: Chomps go in a pocket or glove next to the body, not in the pack. In the pack they turn into chomps ice cubes that will surely break a tooth.
- If I'd had my phone I probably would've done Fort Snelling but with the snow on the ground, I was a little iffy on the footing and what to expect on the hills back there.
WINS:
- Camelbak: It was touch and go because I kept imagining it was leaking on me (not so) but I think it's basically more pleasant than wearing a hydration belt around my waist.
- Interval timing program on my iPod - basic win. Towards the end of the run I figured out how to make the program turn down the music so I could hear the timer bells clearly. It has to do with the order of turning on the program and then music I think?
- Clothing: I wore two pairs of socks (feet: never cold); two pairs of pants (legs: cold at one point when the wind was coming full on, otherwise fine); two shirts and a jacket (could've had a windproof jacket but it was dirty); hat (I love UnderArmour).
- This whole "interval" thing, also known as the Galloway method is pretty fun and is providing a nice way of breaking up longer runs into manageable chunks. I move faster when I run and can focus on form more. Also, I never would've done a 9 miler today without the run/walk option so yeah for getting out there!
MUSIC from the run - some of my favorites from today's playlist include:
- Queen - Under Pressure. I always think of the first episode of Studio 60 when I hear this song. Aaron Sorkin - I miss you and I wish you'd come back to television.
- Eminem - Not Afriad this came at the end of the run when I particularly needed a song that would get me moving.
- YeaSayer - ONE - one of the few bands Qat Lady and I can agree on.
- Santana Feat Joss Stone and Pittbull - Cry Baby Cry, apparently I still want to be in Miami.
PHOTOS from the run - enjoy!

Besides fight with Blogger all night...
Besides fighting with Blogger all night, I exercised and watched Studio 60. This episode just makes me want to know what's going to happen next. Just like last week.
I think I've missed my calling. It's possible I should have been a rower. Tonight I decided (since there was no way I was running) that I'd take a turn on the stair machine and while I was doing that the rowing machine looked fun. I'd read somewhere that rowing machines actually give the most full body workout of any machine. I thought it was relaxing to just sit there and move forward and backwards. Clearly I wasn't working hard enough, but I'd already climbed stairs for 25 minutes.
I did the exercise bike yesterday. I might still be sore from that one...

10 Things Most People Don't Know About You
1. I'm afraid of heights. Although how people can forget that I have no idea.
2. I used to play the saxophone.
3. I used to take Latin in high school.
4. I totally watch the Disney channel. Right now I'm watching Life with Derrek and I love "Phil of the Future". I'm ok with it.
5. Speaking of odd tastes, Blue Man Group.
6. For some reason people who don't know me well are under the impression I can sing. Oh oh, if only you knew.
7. What really happened in Africa.
8. The mental illness history of my family.
9. Where to locate Appalachia on a map.
10. The different TV shows I have been addicted to in my life. Some of the more embarassing ones: Dr. Quinn, Superman: The New Adventures of Lois and Clark, Star Trek: TNG. I'm currently addicted to Brothers and Sisters and pining the loss of Studio 60. Also, where the he!! did "Men in Trees" go?

Randomness
week of April 22: name 3 of each....
1. favorite tv programs
The West Wing: This is a surprise to no one. I love Aaron Sorkin and this show seems to have been particularly charmed by talent. Other favorites from the show include Bradley Whitford and Rob Lowe who I'll come back to later.
Sports Night: See everything I just said about Aaron Sorkin. Also on this show were the amazing Robert Guillaume, William H. Macy who I think is secretly a huge nut, and Felicity Huffman before her newest hit.
NYPD Blue: Jimmy Smits. I also loved some of the stories on this one.
Honorable mentions go to: Men in Trees which has inexplicably been taken off the air by ABC for reasons passing all human understanding, Studio 60 which is has similarly been yanked by NBC, and a new show, Brothers and Sisters which has a great cast including Rob Lowe. I only watched the episode from tonight and it was repeat, but I'm definitely interested in watching more. There's a new one on next Sunday.
2. favorite foods
Chipotle.
Graeters.
Anything Mark cooks for me. He's my cousin and also a chef. You should have seen me when I was living with him. I put back all the weight I lost from going crazy in Africa.
3. favorite books
Harry Potter (any, but especially 3 and 4)
Lord of the Rings
A Tale of Two Cities
Honorable mentions to Pride and Prejudice and Mansfield Park
4. favorite people
Mom and Dad (they've been a couple so long, they're really one person)
Amanda and Kelly (see above)
The museum people. Which museum? If you're reading this, it could be you...
5. favorite movies
Pride and Prejudice
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (yes, I'm a geek, I'm ok with it)
Pirates of the Caribbean
Honorable mentions to Love Actualy and Little Manhattan. (I keep forgetting I own that one.)
6. favorite vacation spots
Key West and the rest of the keys, hands down
The North Shore. Now I'm from Minnesota so I know the difference between "over north" and "up north" and where the north shore really is. Sorry New York.
I seem to remember this time I was on a ship...

The Friday Five
From The Friday Five:
1. What is your all time favorite book?
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.
2. What is your all time favorite movie?
Pirates of the Caribbean is almost always in my DVD player, sharing time with Love Actually and Pride and Prejudice. In the category of movies without Keira Knightly, I love The Sound of Music which was my "sick day" movie as a kid, Alladin and The Lion King.
3. What are you reading right now?
A text book or a journal article. Why?
4. What is your favorite show on tv?
Studio 60 but I'm learning to enjoy Brothers and Sisters
5. What is the last movie you saw in the theater?
Wild Hogs, an hysterically funny movie, part of which was filmed in my hometown.
In other fun news:
10 Signs You May Be a Blog Addict. I'm actually only guilty of number 1.
And finally 16 Articles to Get the Most Out of Your Blog. I think I need number 1. Remember when I had time to post pictures and write more than whatever meme is today?

how have you been
I've slowly been getting better. I'm watching a repeat of Studio 60 right now. There was a new one on last night. I was excited to see it but it just turned out to be a set-up for whatever is going to happen in the next couple of episodes.
On the exercise front, I haven't run in a while. Hopefully I do that tomorrow morning. (We'll see what time I wake up.) Saturday=nothing. Sunday=nothing, although I was cleaning up from an overnight so that is technically physical work. Monday I rode a bike on "fat burn" mode. I found out "fat burn" mode involves keeping my heart rate elevated but not as elevated as it would have been in "cardio" mode. Tonight I swam. I may have mentioned before that my "gaydar" goes totally haywire when guys get in bathing suits. There may have been an instance when I needed it. Grr.

The Friday Five
This one looked fun because it's all about music.
1. Do you download music not from the popular genres of Top 40, pop, rock, rap, dance, R&B, or country?
I really like Folk, Jazz and Blues too. Amos Lee, Madeleine Peyroux, Corrine Bailey Rae, and Gomez are some of my favorites. I think I'm about to discover a new artist called Gran Bel Fisher as well. (Thank you Studio 60.)
2. Are there any musicians for whom you've downloaded a significant amount of their material yet own few or none of their albums?
Yes. Black Eyed Peas, Natalie Merchant, Norah Jones, and Fall Out Boy all come to mind.
3. Have you ever enjoyed a downloaded album so much that you went and bought the physical album?
No, but I've liked them so much I've burned a CD of it.
4. How many different ways of playing music do you own (such as radio, stereo system, computer, Walkman/Discman, mp3 player, mp3-ready phone, etc.)?
I counted six without my car.
5. Do you still have and/or play a favorite vinyl album, cassette tape, or 8-track tape?
At my parents house yes. It's Elton John's "Sleeping With the Past"

Day 14
Today, as part of my giving I:
- Gave away an ink pen. It wasn't the nice one but still..
- Put a small donation into a Tzedakah box at work, which doesn't really count because someone gave me a stamp and told me to put the money there instead of giving it to her
- Started a new Goodwill bag. Current in the bag are: parts of a door handle, one "S" hook, and a pair of pants. What else will go into the bag? Hopefully I'll remember to put the mirror in there, as well as an old pair of sandals I found about two seconds after the last trip to good will.
- Called a friend the second I found out she got thrown off her horse the other day. No, seriously. She spend the night in the hospital. Now she is on pain meds and doing great. Well, the pain meds are great. Also, she doesn't need help walking her dog, I asked.
- Offered to work tomorrow night but was super relieved when I didn't have to.
And now, I will give you my responses to The Friday Five
What's your favourite TV network? It seems as though the only network I watch is the Style Network. I am a Clean House junkie, and my new favorite show is Clean House Comes Clean. Other than that, I like The Dog Whisperer on National Geographic and I sorely miss Comedy Central for the Daily Show and the Colbert Report.
If you could create your own channel, what would it be? LizTV. Really, I like the home and cooking and makeover channels. That wedding stuff isn't too interesting to me, where you have like two days to plan a wedding for a million people and the bride always freaks out. I'm not at that place in my life yet.
What TV show did you watch as a child, that you wish they would bring back? The Smurfs were always my favorite.
What show have you always hated, and wonder why they ever made such a dumb show? I will now confess that I totally don't understand The Family Guy. I think it's stupid and I can't get into it. I'm also bothered by the talking dog and the little baby who is a snob about everything except wearing a diaper. I'll go watch paint dry instead of that show.
What TV show's seasons would you buy on DVD? None of these should come as a surprise. In my home as actual DVDs that I purchased from a store (because the show came out before I had a DVDR) are The West Wing. I still need season 7 if you need a birthday gift for me, and Dr. Quinn. I am not ashamed. Shows where complete season of the show exist in some form or another are: Sports Night, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip which was a winner and met the same sad fate as Sports Night, and Men In Trees which I just learned was cancelled when I googled the show to get this link. I'll have to go back to that story in a moment. Why do all the shows I like get cancelled?

I'm calling this my lunch break
I'm calling this my lunch break and taking the opportunity to write a regular post. It's been a while. I feel like I've been playing catch-up with my life. Friday I worked all day at the Science Museum (where I was very productive) and all night at the aquarium where I was equally productive. Saturday morning I went to the gym and did a long workout on the stair master and then one on the rowing machine. The stair master is a wonderful machine. I think it's almost as much work on my body as running, but low impact easy on my joints. Then I worked all day at the Science Museum and again all night at the aquarium, where I got new pants.
A girl I love working with at the aquarium lives literally two blocks from me, so after the overnight we went grocery shopping and then I dropped her at home. I had a nice nap. I really thought I would sleep more. Given my tiredness the next day, I wish I had. After that I woke up and called my parents. Obviously I had to call them early because the Super Bowl was on later. My Mom agreed to give me a financial aid package for Florida as long as I didn't miss any classes. Have I mentioned my parents are awesome?
Sunday I night I watched part of the Super Bowl and talked with Amanda for a while. Remember when she used to have a blog too? Then I started cleaning. Magically I cleaned most of my kitchen. I need a new way to clean my kitchen floor, because it needs it badly. Really all I need is an empty spray bottle (and a trip to Target).
Yesterday I thought about going to the gym but ultimately didn't go. It's too cold for this nonsense. Instead I called my Aunt Joanie and booked my Florida trip and watched the best episode ever of Studio 60.
Today is obviously an uncharacteristically slow day at work and I have some time. Who knows what will happen when I get to the next job...

The Sunday 7
Name the last seven movies you watched on DVD (or VHS) at home.
I actually had to look at my Netflix queue for these.
1. My Family and Other Animals which was ok.
2. Tuesday's With Morrie which I really liked but felt like it wasn't totally resolved in the movie.
3. Little Manhattan which I highly recommend.
4. Two Weeks Notice which has a special place in my heart, and not only because of Hugh Grant.
5. The Prize Winner of Defiance Ohio which I really liked. I thought about a school in Defiance, Ohio.
6. John Tucker Must Die which is totally cute.
7. Must Love Dogs which I think I've written about before. It's ok right up until the end when she jumps out of a canoe to get to the dude. I mean seriously, it's not like neither one of them was ever coming back to the shore of the lake.
Bonus: Pirates of the Carribean is quite frequently in my DVD player. It makes great background noise, as do several episodes of Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip which they are still filming even though it hasn't been on the air in a painfully long time.

What I've learned...
I drove home today. New Year's Day is the best ever driving day (as long as you're not hung over). I wasn't hung over so I was fine. There was like no one on the roads except in Wisconsin there was 1 police officer to every car on the road. I think when I get MN plates I'll keep a Green Bay Packers magnet and stick it on my car whenever I drive through Wisconsin. That's gotta be like an FOP sticker any where else.
I haven't run in two days. When I got back here the sidewalks are all icy. I'm so sad. I think tomorrow I'm going to have to go join the YWCA so I can run inside. Who knows, maybe I'll start swimming again. Someone told me that runners should cross train a lot to preserve the health of their joints.
I'm totally not trying to put pictures on here. I'm still running Damn Small Linux. I don't think I could even make my camera talk to my computer right now. Hopefully I will find help for my computer tomorrow.
Also, anyone who knows when the next Studio 60 is really going to me on, drop me a line.

Oh, why not
From 3x Thursday: 02/08/y2k+7: The wars...there and at home:
1. What do you think of the worsening situations in Iraq and Afghanistan? Do you think there's any way out at this point? How so/how not?
I'm very troubled by the multiple wars in the Middle East, and troubled that another country may soon join the fray. I do think there's a way out. There's always hope. The cost of the war is human capitol to our country, Iraq, and the rest of the world. There is a way to stop the war and divert that human capitol into a productive use.
2. Do you believe the US government has handled these wars very well? How so/how not? Is there anything you'd change?
I think the government is trying to win. I think there is no victory in killing people, even Saddam Hussein. That doesn't make my life better. That didn't make the Iraqi people's lives better, it didn't heal the pain a lot of people were feeling. Our country needs to change from using guns, threats, and violence on other countries to stop threats and violence against us. Violence begets violence and it is a descending spiral. (Points if you know who said that.)
3. How do you feel about the progress of getting New Orleans back on it's feet? Do you think it's going well? Why/why not? Do you think they've been getting the help that they need? If not, what do you think should change? Why? How?
The only thing I know about New Orleans, which I thought was cool, was the musicians from New Orleans who played on the Christmas Episode of Studio 60. That was a cool moment and based on the premise that we can all help each other.

My legs part 2
There was snow cover this morning when I ran. I've never run in the snow before. It wasn't very much, but just enough that it added an extra workout for my legs. My calves are so sore. I actually walked a little way up the "big hill" in my run and stretched a bit.
Also, I'm still working on the ideal running outfit for this weather. Let me know if you have suggestions. As my picture for today, here's some of the things I wear running:

These are Brooks shoes. I love them.

Yes, I wear a headlight when I run. It's dark here. Notice the reflective tape on the headlight. It even comes out in my pictures.
I'm slowly recovering from homework. Still left this semester are preparing for a presentation on Thursday and completing a final paper, both for the same class. I'm done with my other three classes. That I know of at least.
Instead of posting news stories today, I want to ask, who saw Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip tonight? Love the ending. I love the whole show really.
