Loony Challenge: Training Plan

I finally got my act together and created a Loony Training plan.  I'm finally over the trauma that was the Great Run Across Minnesota.  I'm ready to think about running different distances on different days, lifting weights, zumba, and riding a bike.  I drew up a long run schedule.  It's more manageable than I realized.  I'll plan to do my long runs with Olive.

Get in Gear 10K - 21 Weeks to Go

Since I failed so hard at actually racing a 10K in 2019, I decided to make my first goal race for 2020 the Get in Gear 10K.  This has the ulterior motive of preventing me from training crazy distances in the winter weather like last year.  Since I've been doing basically nothing, this will be a long build up.

Sunday planned: Run 1 mile
Sunday actual: 1.2 miles in the snow.  First yak trax run of the year.
From today, I learned: This was mostly about observing plowing patterns in the new neighborhood.  Park board did good.  Other things were more hit and miss and I was glad for the yak trax.

Monday planned: Run 3 miles
Monday actual: 3.66 miles in the snow. Bonus leg day
From today, I learned: I may need to head inside for a bit.  The paths weren't unbearable, but probably worth trying to find a treadmill for a minute.  Leg day wore me out.  I'm out of shape.  Sigh.

Tuesday planned: Run 1 mile; Tuesday weights
Tuesday actual: No weights.  Because being a good friend is always more important.  Run 1.2 miles in the snow in yak trax.
From today, I learned: I actually told Captain Smiley "if I'm not back in 30 minutes, I've fallen on my ass, come find me"

Wednesday planned: Run 3 miles
Wednesday actual: 3 miles on the treadmill.  At the crack of dawn, but I was listening to a new book and loving it.
From today, I learned: I need to plan my mornings better.  I was a bit rushed to get to the right place at the right time after my run.

Thursday planned: Run 1 mile, Thursday weights
Thursday actual: 1.2 miles on the treadmill.  Tuesday weights on Thursday.  Just go with it.  Bonus abs.
From today, I learned: I was sacked out at the end of this.  I was so tired from work and working out when I got home...

Friday planned: Run 3 miles
Friday actual: 4.28 miles around the marsh while I was finishing 'The Giver of Stars'
From today, I learned: Like, no, I will not stop running until this book is done.  Also, I wore my vest again, because I was cold before I even left the house.  That vest is the best thing ever.

Saturday planned: Run 4 miles
Saturday actual: 3 miles, plus half mile cool down walk.  Leg exercises.
From today, I learned: I got a new watch and this thing is going to have a bit of a learning curve.

Marshmallow Training - 19 Weeks to Go

Sunday Planned: 8 Miles Long Run
Sunday actual: 7.87 miles in the morning.
From today, I learned: It's always more fun to run when it's above 30*.  There's so much oxygen in the air.  Also, totally fine to walk up a hill from time to time.

Monday Planned: Hill Repeats.  Weights?
Monday actual:
Monday abs: Done, although somehow I finished I minute early.  I don't even know what exercise I forgot.
Hill repeats: Warm up; 8x1:00 running up the hills, recovery on the way down; cool down.  Total around 5.1 miles
No weights; my heart just wasn't in it.
From today, I learned: That hill was SUPER steep.

Tuesday Planned: 1 Mile, or 5 Miles easy
Tuesday actual: Merry Christmas.  I actually did 3.35 miles, easy, through Ault Park.  I think it was easy, I legit didn't look at my watch once. I had a blast.
I also did a finisher, which I have not done in a while.
From today, I learned: Turn my feet over on the down hills.  Count and pay attention on the finishers.  Sigh.

Wednesday Planned: 1 Mile, or 5 Miles easy.  Weights?
Wednesday actual: 3.35 miles through Ault Park. No weights.  I did do a finisher.
From today, I learned: Oh man, I am going to miss this weather so hard.

Thursday Planned: 1 Mile
Thursday actual: 1.18 miles through puddles of literal slush and ice cold water.
From today, I learned: Qat Lady told me to avoid the puddles and then at the end, jump in one 'cause it would make me laugh.  In real life, the puddles were unavoidable but I still jumped for her.  This may be the worst running conditions I've had for my entire streak.

Friday Planned: 3 Miles easy, weights
Friday actual: 1.3 miles on the treadmill at the gym.  I did not do weights.
From today, I learned: When I'm tired, don't push it.  That was the right decision.

Saturday Planned: 3 Miles easy
Saturday actual: Attempt 1 was 3 miles at Lake Nokomis.  I parked, walked across the street, and gave up.  It was waaaay too icy.
Attempt 2 was 3 miles inside at the gym.  During a basketball tournament where they were fucking making Mini Donuts that I had to smell.  I am so over this bullshit. I did make it 3 miles.  Also, made a game plan for tomorrow.  Tournament resumes with games at 9am.  So at least part of my run will be on a treadmill away from the fucking donuts.
From today, I learned: I hate the smell of fucking donuts when I'm running.

Loony Challenge - 19 Weeks to go

Weekly Miles Planned: 31
Actual: 28+ miles run; 2+ miles walked.  I'm calling it good.

Long Run Miles Planned: 6
Actual: 6.36 on Sunday

Sunday Planned: 6-10 Miles at MAF, Sunday Kettlebell Workout, Sunday Abs
Actual:
Run: 6.36 miles, Avg HR 140.  This was really hot.
Kettlebells: Done
Abs: Also done, made a workout on my interval timer for this
Nutrition: Did not eat before the workout.  I had a banana afterwards as hanger food.

Monday Planned: 6-10 Miles at MAF, Plyos
Actual: 1.2 miles around 9am.  I woke up, saw the temperature, and went right back to bed.  It was already pretty hot when I ran my mile, and will get even hotter throughout the day.
Nutrition: Also around 9am, I realized I didn't have anything to feed myself for lunch this week.  So I got in the car and headed over to the co-op before it got too hot.

Tuesday Planned: 4-6 Miles at MAF, Lift Weights
Actual:
Run: 4.15 miles, Avg HR 141.  This run was really hot and there was walking up the hills.  But this run is done and it was done outside.
Weights: Tuesday weight lifting in the afternoon.
Nutrition: Went to Punch with Qat Lady and My Pooky Bear.  Went back into 'resist the bread' mode while I was there. Oh, Whole30, the things you do to me.  For next week, I asked Pooky Bear to pick either a place with awesome salad, or a steak.

Wednesday Planned: 1 Mile Run
Actual: 1.21 miles run.  Some walking in the afternoon to fight off a head ache.
Nutrition: I did not resort to drinking when I got some frustrating news, so I'm proud of that.

Thursday Planned: 4-6 Miles at MAF, Lift Weights
Actual:
Run: 5.5 miles run in the heat.  I could've made other choices here.
Weights:Thursday weights.
Bonus abs workout.  I decided it'd be good to do this more than once/week and I was in the mood.
Nutrition: I had post run snack to fight off the hanger before dinner. That was a good move.  Captain Smiley came over and ate with me.  He fixed my mental health which had been failing for the past couple of days, so that was also awesome.

Friday Planned: 1 Mile Run
Actual:
Run: 4.16 miles run
Plyos 1x15  This is swapped with Monday's run because weather.
Nutrition: So, I'm priming my whole bathroom and fingers crossed the ceiling gets straight up painted tonight as well. Breakfast and lunch were fine and then 'dinner' was a shake of coconut milk, almond butter, banana and cocoa.  It filled me up so far, so I'm okay with it.  I told my friend Olive that I wish I was drinking right now because tonight after all the painting, it would taste sooooo good.

Saturday Planned: 4-6 Miles at MAF, Plyos
Actual:
Run 6.1 miles, Avg HR 137
Plyos 2 sets of 10
Nutrition: Still doing the Whole30 thing, though there is some cheese in my fridge I feel bad about not eating.
