- Awesome facts about Star Trek. And the follow up, There really are aliens out there but we turned the signal off for now so they won't bother us.
- In the summer, I love to eat fresh fruit. I think I'd like all my fresh fruit this way for a while. Om nom nom.
- How much does your city spend on food and drink? It's really fascinating to see who eats out more and who buys more food at home. What's up with Detroit?
- White nose syndrome affecting bats is getting worse. Why should you care? Besides being natures pest control and pollinators, bats are about the cutest things going. Awww.
- I used to love algebra. This is an interesting use of math skills. I think I found the error in the top part too. (I am such a nerd.)
- Kids who learn to fib early are actually successful citizens. Win for me because I've been making stuff up since I could talk.
- ::Soapbox #1:: Former first lady Laura Bush supports gay marriage. Good for her. ::Steps down::
- ::Soapbox #2:: Governor Pawlenty turned down Medicaid so he can run for president. (The article is mildly accurate. The governor didn't accept the money right now. The agreement purposefully leaves the door open for whomever is elected this year to accept the money and 'expand government' while our current governor is out running for president.) And the follow up: Governor Pawlenty will run for President with the slogan, Elect me, I just cut a billion dollars from education in my state alone; think what I can do for the whole country. I've been following the budget thing fairly closely because the state budget profoundly affects my clients, and some of the proposed health care cuts would have made it much harder for me to do my job. As it is, the budget snarl actually made the department of human service put one program (that I wasn't such a fan of) on hold. It feels good to me right now that I don't have to learn this new program. We'll see if it's good in the long run. ::Steps down from soap box again::

I'd love to see the "how much $ on food" chart include average income, or % of average income spent on food. Just curious.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever been to Detroit? It's terrible. And very poor. And we've heard a lot in the news lately about how poor people eat crap food (more calories for your $).
